Prevent and remove mould in NI kitchens

Northern Ireland kitchens combine cooking steam, condensation, and often older ventilation — ideal conditions for black mould around fridge seals, window frames, and grout lines. Prevention beats scrubbing: use extractor fans when boiling, wipe condensation from sills each morning, and leave cupboard doors ajar after washing up.
For small surface patches on sealed tiles or silicone, wear gloves and ventilate the room. A cloth dampened with diluted white vinegar can lift light mould; follow with a dry cloth. Commercial mould sprays are effective on non-porous areas — always read the label and never mix bleach with other products.
Mould on porous drywall, behind units, or covering more than about a square metre needs investigation for leaks or ventilation failure — cleaning alone will not stop it returning. Landlords and agents often treat persistent mould as a maintenance issue, not a tenant cleaning task.
Regular kitchen degreasing reduces the organic film mould feeds on. Many approved cleaners on CleanerPal include hob, splashback, and appliance fronts in a standard deep clean — worth booking before a tenancy inspection.
