Cleaning tips

Use daylight to lift stubborn fabric stains

Ultraviolet light naturally breaks down some organic stains when fabric is damp and exposed outdoors. It works best on white or pale cotton — not on delicate silks or heavily dyed items that may fade unevenly.

Rinse the stain in cold water first, then apply a little liquid laundry soap and work it into the fibres. Pin the item outside so the stained area faces direct sun, mist lightly with water, and check every hour. Reapply soap if needed; grass and berry marks often need two sessions.

This method complements rather than replaces a full wash cycle. Always finish in the machine to remove loosened pigment and bacteria. Avoid leaving wet coloured clothes in sun for days — fading can become permanent.

When stains survive home treatment, a professional cleaner tackling your full laundry pile on a regular visit may still save the garment during the rest of the house clean.
